postpartum doula

I aim to take care of things like an attentive grandmother so you can focus on healing, bonding, and recovery.

I provide

  • An in-person planning session sometime in the third trimester
  • Listening, troubleshooting, encouragement, and emotional support after birth
  • Nourishing snacks (This is one of my favorite parts of the work as an eastern European and an herbalist!)
  • Help with household tasks like dishes, food prep, laundry, tidying
  • Information and referrals as needed
  • Care for baby while you rest

I'm an herbalist with 12 years of experience and three years of training.  I've cared for several friends postpartum and myself have had two live births and one mid pregnancy stillbirth. I experienced, with curiosity and amazement, how my vastly different postpartum care scenarios shaped my recovery so uniquely each time.

I have a deep personal knowledge of nutrition, pregnancy, the postpartum period, and a nourishing approach rooted in eastern European folkways.

I am not a healthcare practitioner, and our work is not a substitute for medical advice. I offer support grounded in traditional knowledge and lived experience.

You can read more about me on the main page of this site.

"Anikó provided incredible support during one of the most vulnerable times of my life! Having her with us during our postpartum time created an amazing atmosphere to bond and focus on our new family. Her work created a rhythm and flow to our days which allowed for connection and care to be prioritized between me, baby & my partner.

Anikó was intuitive and communicative, checking in and offering many things that we didn’t even know were exactly what we needed! Her knowledge and presence created a calm buffer in stressful moments. Anikó’s active listening, affirmations, sage perspective and advice helped instill confidence and assuage many worries. Her cooking and baking were a delicious comfort, and deeply nourished my body while in recovery from a very long strenuous birth.

I would highly highly recommend Anikó’s support to everyone, knowing that support in the postpartum time was so crucial to my and my family’s well being."

"Anikó was such an incredible part of our post-partum transition. Becoming a parent felt like entering a portal to an unknown reality, and Anikó helped shepherd us through that shift with grace, compassion, and expertise. She quickly and adeptly attuned to our needs, providing an ideal mix of suggestions and reassurance. When we had questions or worries, she was an incredible resource to discuss, normalize, and help us determine what concerns or questions to bring to our healthcare team. She anticipated and responded to needs we sometimes couldn't even identify for ourselves, always bringing a nourishing snack or offering a chestfeeding tip at exactly the right moment.

Her encouragement and advice to me as the non-birthing parent were so valuable in my process of orienting to my role of support, co-regulation, responsiveness, and care. She finds such obvious joy in the work too - getting to watch her care for our new lil nugget as we caught our breath was incredibly sweet, and again an essential role-modeling and learning experience for us new parents.

I am so deeply grateful for our time working with her as our post-partum doula - her presence was a magical gift to receive."

For The Children by Gary Snyder

The rising hills, the slopes,
of statistics
lie before us.
the steep climb
of everything, going up,
up, as we all
go down.

In the next century
or the one beyond that,
they say,
are valleys, pastures,
we can meet there in peace
if we make it.

To climb these coming crests
one word to you, to
you and your children:

stay together
learn the flowers
go light
